Did he ever really love me? Please help.?

My ex and I were together for almost 2 years, we broke up once when he went to college but he decided he wanted to get back together. We had a good relationship he was always very sweet and respectful. He even planned for my two best friends to come down from out of town for my birthday. Then everything changed when his brother ped away suddenly. I was with him through everything and sat on his bed with him for hours while he cried. RIght after his brother died he became really cold and we began to fight all the time. When i told him i got into the college of my dreams he said "you can do better" and didnt seem happy for me at all even though i was always supportive of him. I also never wanted to have with him and he used to be okay with that but he began to push saying i wouldnt do anything with him if he didnt push me. When we broke up for that 2 month period i found out he kissed a girl who started problems between us while we were together and lied to me about it but eventually came clean and told me the truth at my last homecoming dance, ruining everything. I eventually broke up with him because i couldnt handle it anymore. For weeks after we broke up he tried to get me to hook up with him and he told a friend that he was apathetic about the break up. He also told me through text message he's interested in another girl even though we've only been broken up for a little over 2 months. I continue to show that i care about him and i let him know i'm there for him because i know he's probably going through a lot. He told me he "cared while we were dating but not anymore" Did he ever love me? Why is he acting this way? Sometimes it's hard to control my anger towards him because he did a lot to hurt me, and it's hard to see him so different. Thanks in advance.
