Monks in Tibet?

what is going on? from what I heard from CNN, they were just in a march remembering the first protest for independence and the chinese government sent in the troops...I dont get it...i havent been paying attention to that side of the world...can anyone explain to me why the chinese gov sent in the troops against the tibetian monks?
