ISO is a measure of how much light is necessary to produce an image. if your highest ISO setting is 400 then that's what you want to use indoors or in a low-light setting. the exposure regulates the amount of light that is let in when the shutter opens. i don't know much about point and shoot cameras but just mess around and see what happens when you change the settings, it doesn't seem like there's too many of them so it shouldn't be too hard.
